Researchers at Allahabad University have made a significant advancement in the field of neuroscience by developing 14 new chemical compounds aimed at enhancing human memory and combating Alzheimer's disease. The compounds work by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine—a neurotransmitter crucial for memory and learning. By maintaining higher levels of acetylcholine, these compounds aim to improve neural communication and cognitive function. Additionally, they address the harmful effects of hyperphosphorylated tau proteins, which are linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Research and Testing
Utilizing advanced molecular docking and computer simulations, the team has identified three compounds with promising results. These are currently undergoing further evaluation in collaboration with California State University, Fullerton. The findings have been published in the Journal of Molecular Structure, marking a significant step toward developing effective treatments for memory loss and neurodegenerative diseases.
